Our Favourite Silver Screen Christmas Weddings
There are some dreams that everyone is allowed to have, regardless of where they’re from or what season it is when the Christmas spirit rolls round. One of those dreams is the fabled Christmas wedding. Many of us have been dreaming about our Christmas weddings since we were little, and watching magical princesses and beautiful queens wed beneath the crisp, starry sky, suggestions of the festive everywhere from the touches on the dress, to the little twists that can be added to the decor.
No question about it: there is definitely something special about a Christmas weddings. And even if some of us never get the chance to experience it, we can still have a little heady taste of the dream once a year, when it becomes appropriate to watch cheesy, but somehow still wonderfully enjoyable, Christmas movies.
What is a Christmas movie without a Christmas wedding? Does it even qualify anymore? We’ve rounded up some of our favourite film Christmas weddings, just for a little bit of inspiration and wistfulness. Netflix is a smorgasbord of festive, nuptial delight and everyone should take advantage.
The Princess Switch
Everyone loves a good old-fashioned switcheroo. As a concept, it never gets old. And this picture packs in the punch when it comes to who’s who in the zoo. When distant relations run into one another in the perfect Christmas village, there’s bound to be shenanigans. There’s a prince and a best friend involved, a sharp teenager, and a bunch of Christmas-themed romance that culminates in a beautiful Christmas wedding with just the right amount of froth, lace, and that warm feeling in your chest that only a happy ending can give you.
A Christmas Prince: Royal Wedding
An infamous sequel, this sweet film tells the tale of a soon to be married royal couple, and their upcoming royal wedding. Of course, there are tensions: the bride thinks everything is old-fashioned, the groom is not sticking up for her, and everyone else is just being too exuberant. Plus there’s a bit of redemption, and a good old-fashioned bad guy. It makes for a few hilarious moments, and a touching heartfelt ending that is only made better by the fabulous dress the bride ends up wearing.
Christmas Wedding Planner
Notorious on the internet for being one of the worst Christmas movies ever, the wedding is still worth the watch. In fact, the whole story centers around how weddings have their highs and lows, but things always come out right at the end. And for this wedding planner, that’s just as well, considering her biggest job is being put at risk by a handsome stranger. Not only do we all get to relate to the entire ritual of weddings, but we also get to coo over how lovely the final product is.
Bonus Christmas Wedding: Love Actually
A festive season staple that’s been around for years, this kind of list would be incomplete without a mention of Love Actually. A Christmas classic, it’s a must for anyone with love on the brain. And the wedding we get to witness is one of the sweetest around (even though it goes a bit south later — we’re ignoring that part!) and the bride is truly a picture of radiant happiness. How could you not be utterly convinced that love actually… is?
